A candidate for Albany Common Council is back on the ballot after a court ruling.
Richard-Olivier Marius is one of several candidates vying to replace Richard Conti in the 6th ward. The Board of Elections knocked the Democrat off the ballot due to an omission on his petitions. Basically, I omitted Ward Six in the public office title, Marius said. And I only put common council or councilmember. But I had to argue that between my address and the office title that I was seeking, there was sufficient information in the body of the petition sheets to inform everyone exactly where I was running and what I was running for specifically.

Councilor Richard Conti, elected in 1997, is one of five senior Albany Common Council members who are not running for another term this year. A Haitian-American artist is among emerging candidates for Conti’s Sixth Ward seat.
Richard-Olivier Marius describes himself as a progressive Democrat as well as an anthropologist and social scientist, who has been involved with humanitarian work around the world. I am qualified to run, the Board of Elections has OKed my candidacy. So I think anybody who has a good idea, and good intentions to help the community should certainly run and not be intimidated by anyone or anything.
