Manipur Assembly Session: The crucial one-day session has been called by Manipur Governor Anusuiya Uikey. The previous assembly session occurred in March. 

The two tribal Kuki-Zo bodies submitted a joint memorandum to the Governor of Manipur today through Deputy Commissioner Kangpokpi to have a sympathetic look at the present situation and defer the state legislative assembly session. The two tribal Kuki-Zo bodies urged the Governor of Manipur for a protracted action by declaring all the valley districts as "Disturbed Areas" and re-impose AFSPA in all the districts under the 19 police stations to restore law and order in the state.

Kuki bodies in Manipur on Sunday stated that no resolution adopted by the assembly will be binding in Kuki areas, while asking 10 MLAs from the community to refrain from attending assembly session on August 29, 2023.

Ten MLAs belonging to the Kuki-Zomi-Hmar community in Manipur are expected to miss the August 29 assembly session due to safety concerns following ethnic violence in the region. Two ministers from this community, Letpao Haokip and Nemcha Kipgen, have also been affected by the violence, with their homes being burnt down. Kipgen has requested leave from the session citing law and order issues. The Kuki MLAs are seeking separate administration for the tribals, and there is fear among tribal leaders...

This convening of the session is not in accordance with the cabinet decision, Delhi Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena said.
