Here is the good news for people who want to pursue a degree through distance education.

Degrees obtained through distance and online learning from recognised institutions will be treated on a par with those offered through conventional mode, according to the University Grants Commission (UGC).

University Grants Commission UGC released the much-awaited fine print of the Regulations on its website. Regulations lay down minimum standards for academic collaboration between Indian Higher Educational Institutions HEIs and foreign Higher Educational Institutions FEIs.

UGC has cautioned students against Periyar University's ODL programmes (Open and Distance Learning Programmes and Online Programmes).

According to norms, no higher educational institution can offer any open and distance learning programmes and admit learners unless they are granted recognition by the Commission.
