On the National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women, more than 100 organizations, including YWCA Toronto, have released an open letter urging Premier Doug Ford to declare Intimate Partner Violence (IPV) and Gender-Based Violence (GBV) as an epidemic in Ontario. The call follows the province s refusal to do so in accordance with the recommendations of the Culleton, Kuzyk, and Warmerdam Inquest Report. Despite initial rejection, survivors, advocates, and organizations continue to advocate for this declaration and for more significant efforts to address these pervasive issues. Over 75 municipalities, including Toronto, have already declared IPV and/or GBV as an epidemic.
