Red Hat acquires Kubernetes security firm StackRox

Red Hat said the purchase would help it focus on securing cloud-native workloads by expanding and refining Kubernetes’ native controls and shifting security left into the container build and CI/CD phase. This will help provide a cohesive solution for enhanced security up and down the entire IT stack and throughout the lifecycle. Securing Kubernetes workloads and infrastructure cannot be done in a piecemeal manner; security must be an integrated part of every deployment, not an afterthought, said Red Hat CEO Paul Cormier.  Red Hat adds StackRox s Kubernetes-native capabilities to OpenShift s layered security approach, furthering our mission to bring product-ready open innovation to every organization across the open hybrid cloud across IT footprints.

Red Hat Opens the Door for Windows Containers in OpenShift

Early next year, Red Hat OpenShift users will be able to deploy Windows containers alongside Linux containers. Starting in early 2021, Windows containers will be supported on Red Hat OpenShift. This will make things easier for companies using Linux and Windows in a multi-cloud infrastructure, as it means that Windows servers won t be forced into their own separate silos that require separate management. Windows containers will be able to be fired up on Windows servers and managed by the same OpenShift Kubernetes that s orchestrating the rest of the system. This new support for Windows containers on OpenShift will give IT teams the ability to manage both Linux and Windows-based containerized workloads side-by-side through the same dashboard and eliminate the need for parallel software stacks for Windows instances in hybrid clouds dominated by Linux servers – important in a world where containerized workloads have become the rule rather than the exception.

Rancher Deal May Make SUSE a Kubernetes and Hybrid Cloud Powerhouse

Rancher Acquisition May Make SUSE a Kubernetes and Hybrid Cloud Powerhouse After years of struggling to catch up, the German open source software firm buys what might be the ticket to finally turning around. SUSE s acquisition of the open source Kubernetes startup Rancher Labs closed earlier this month, and the German company that s behind the SUSE Linux distribution might be the hybrid cloud company to watch in 2021. SUSE is about a year older than Red Hat. At the turn of the century, it was considered the Cadillac of Linux distros, but the company has been playing catch-up for much of this century, struggling under a series of corporate owners who did little to help it prosper.
