Ahead of memorial day, a new museum is opening that is paying tribute to military service members near Bartlso, Ill.

The USS Theodore Roosevelt (CVN-71) was launched in 1984 and commissioned in 1986. President Ford initially canceled its construction, but it was later authorized due to the Iran hostage crisis.

These Memorial Day observances are planned: Hecla The Veterans of Hecla Honor Roll will host a service at 10:15 a.m. Monday in Porterfield Hall at Community Church of Hecla, 537 Hecla Road, Mt. Pleasant Township. Refreshments will be served. Hempfield The annual remembrance ceremony will be held at 11 a.m.

The event speaker will be newly elected District 3 City Commissioner Chloe Johnson.
