The Duke of Edinburgh passed away on Friday, April 9, at the age of 99 sparking a flurry of tributes from around the world, as the Queen lost her husband of more than 70 years. Now, the Queen, aged 94, has returned to work to mark the retirement of her household’s most senior official, former Lord Chamberlain Earl Peel. The Duke’s funeral will take place on Saturday at St George s Chapel. Returning to her official role so soon after her bereavement typifies the Queen’s deep sense of duty and service.

Britainâs Queen Elizabeth II has returned to royal duties four days after her husband Prince Philip â the Duke of Edinburgh s death on April 9. The 94-year-old monarch hosted an audience with Earl Peel for his retirement as he formally stepped down as Lord Chamberlain, in charge of organising royal ceremonies. During a private event held at Windsor Castle on Tuesday, the Queen accepted her former royal aide s wand and office insignia. Earl Peel had an audience of The Queen today, delivered up his Wand and Insignia of Office as Lord Chamberlain and the Badge of Chancellor of the Royal Victorian Order and took leave upon relinquishing his appointment as Lord Chamberlain, when Her Majesty invested him with the Royal Victorian Chain, read the details in the Court Circular, a daily list of the official events attended by the Queen and the royal family.

The Queen has returned to royal duties just four days after the death of her husband of 73 years, Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh.
The monarch, who turns 95-years-old in a few days time, hosted a retirement ceremony at Windsor for one of her departing senior aides.
A ceremony was held in honour of former Lord Chamberlain Earl Peel on Tuesday.
The Lord Chamberlain is the Head of Her Majesty’s working Household. Earl Peel himself played an instrumental role in the planning and preparation of ‘Operation Forth Bridge’ – the top secret funeral arrangements in place for Prince Philip.
