Police Public Relations Officer, SP Orlando Ikeokwu, who confirmed the story, said that the case was reported to the station by the child’s grandparents.
According to him, Chinenye Anyanwu and his wife, Patience, who hail from Lorji in Mbaise, had reported that their grandson was kidnapped on his way to school.
“But they had their luck run out when some youths of Ohekelem suspected what they were carrying in a sack.
“When confronted, they abandoned the bag and ran into the bush,” he said.

Receiving the new PPRO at the Command headquarters, Owerri on Tuesday, the outgoing PPRO Ikeokwu said that SP Bala Elkana would take over from him, just as he announced his redeployment to Ondo State Police Command.
SP Bala Elkana was enlisted into the Nigeria Police Force in 2003. He holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Law (LLB), master’s degree in Peace Studies and Conflict Resolution (MSC), Master’s Degree in Business Administration (MBA) among other academic qualifications.

A former governor of Imo State, Rochas Okorocha, on Sunday, accused the state police command of illegally detaining his two associates.
Okorocha in a statement issued by his spokesperson, Sam Onwuemeodo, on Sunday, said that the target was to link him (Okorocha) with the spate of killings and Insecurity in the state.
The statement disclosed the names of the associates as Ojukwu Ukonu and Casmir Ugbo, adding that they were being held in the anti-kidnapping facility of the state police command.
The statement also disclosed that Ugbo’s wife was being held by the police without any charge preferred against him.
