This year’s Click It or Ticket campaign kicks off Monday and will last through June 6, but state leaders hope the message and its impact will make a lasting impression to keep drivers and passengers safe.

Not much different from any other time, the Chula Vista Police Department will actively look for motorists and passengers who are not wearing seat belts. Violations could result in fines of $162 for an unbelted adult and a $490 fine for an unbelted child.

Chula Vista checkpoint nets one drug arrest

CHULA VISTA (CNS) - One person was arrested on suspicion of carrying drugs during a checkpoint, police said Saturday.
The Chula Vista Police Department Traffic Unit conducted the checkpoint between 6 p.m. and midnight Friday in the 1400 block of East H Street, according to Officer Oscar Miranda.
Of the 1,227 vehicles that traveled through the checkpoint, 572 vehicles were screened, Miranda said. Four drivers were given field sobriety tests and no drivers were arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol.
Citations for unlicensed or suspended license were issued to eight drivers, the officer said. Two vehicles were impounded.

Home renovations boom during pandemic
Oscar Miranda said he’s currently working on some of his rental properties.
“So, we’re taking off all the old floors and replacing them with the new vinyl floor,” he said.
Joe Teeples visited a home improvement store Monday before heading back to work on his home.
“Last week you know it got really cold, so I put in some insulation to take care of some colds spots,” he explained.
However, not everyone is interested in doing their home projects themselves. Contractors are available, but they’re busy.
Chuck Hall with Nastase Contracting said the pandemic caused them to lose a few weeks of business last year.
