City supports bringing high-speed Internet to underserved areas of Oshawa

City supports bringing high-speed Internet to underserved areas of Oshawa Posted on May 11, 2021 by oshawaexpress in BUSINESS, CITY, NEWS The City of Oshawa is supporting an application from Rogers Communications for federal funding to bring high-speed Internet to some areas of Oshawa. Rogers has submitted an application under the Federal Government’s $1.75 billion Universal Broadband Fund to connect eligible homes and businesses in Oshawa to Rogers’ high-speed Internet network. According to the city, the households are primarily in the rural areas of Oshawa, and the application would also see connection for businesses in the Northwood Business Park. The City says there are no associated costs to the municipality of community members in connection with the application.

Oshawa is getting a bike park | The Oshawa Express

Oshawa is getting a bike park Posted on April 6, 2021 by oshawaexpress in COMMUNITY, COMMUNITY By Courtney Bachar/The Oshawa Express/LJI Reporter Oshawa will be getting a bike park in the city’s north end by the end of the summer. Oshawa City Council approved the $100,000 capital project for the construction of the Phase 1 bike park facility at its most recent meeting. The project will be funded through the Parks and Recreation Facilities Reserve. While the majority of council endorsed the project, Councillor Jane Hurst says building this recreational facility is “a reward for bad behaviour.” “I think that $100,000 should go towards improving the parks for our children and other parents and grandparents that have been anxiously awaiting improvements in their local parks, which affects thousands of people here,” she says, “as opposed to facilitating the introduction of a BMX facility in response to the illegal site that was already imposed on city property without our consultation or our authority.”

Oshawa may be getting a bike park Posted on March 17, 2021 by oshawaexpress in CITY, NEWS By Courtney Bachar/The Oshawa Express/LJI Reporter Oshawa City Council has chosen a preferred alternative site for a potential bike park to replace the current unsanctioned bike park in north Oshawa. Council recently endorsed Thornton Road Community Park as the preferred alternative site which could potentially include sports fields and a BMX facility. “I’m sure by this point it’s been recognized by the outpouring in the petition and by general demand here that the need and the recommendation for a bike park has been fulfilled here,” says Steven Lind, the person behind a petition that has garnered more than 6,500 in favour of having a bike park in Oshawa.
