Boys’ lacrosse: Archie McEvoy, Cape Elizabeth
The senior attack was the unquestioned leader and quarterback of the undefeated Class A champions explosive offense.

With the ball, Archie McEvoy could be a magician, feinting one way and then using a small sliver of space to rifle a pass to a teammate or pick the open spot in the net for his own shot.
But it was what the Cape Elizabeth senior did without the ball that may have been most important.

CAPE ELIZABETH Cape Elizabeth’s boys’ lacrosse team continues to live up to the hype as the best squad in the state.
After an emphatic 15-goal victory at two-time reigning Class A champion Thornton Academy on Tuesday, the Capers faced another big test Saturday at Hannaford Field against rival Falmouth. But Cape dominated at both ends of the field and produced another impressive win.

1. Cape Elizabeth: Ben Raymond’s Capers return as many or more players than any of their Class A competition. Senior attack Archie McEvoy is the playmaker for an explosive offense that features junior midfielders Nic Boudreau, Tiernan Lathrop and Colin Campbell, who each played significant roles as freshmen. Senior attack Oskar Frankwicz and freshman Keegan Lathrop, who scored five goals in his varsity debut, add punch. Seniors Charlie Whitney (goalie) and Gus Huffard (faceoffs) are first-year starters with veteran poise. The defense, led by senior Gavin Simopoulos, is less tested, but Cape has the depth and talent to get past South challengers Thornton Academy and Scarborough.
