Federal money could fund youth clubhouse, self-cleaning washrooms

Council held a special meeting since the city needs to submit a funding application by Jan. 7. While the funding requirement caps individual projects at $10 million, the city developed its own cap at $5 million so it could spread money across the wards. Staff considered 160 project ideas and decided which ones best match the application criteria. The largest proposed funding commitment is $5 million for a new clubhouse run by the Boys and Girls Club at a vacant city-owned property at 1770 Heatherington Rd., south of Walkley Road. The project is estimated to cost between $5.67 million and $6.5 million, with the Boys and Girls Club committing to secure the rest of the funding.
