Youâll lose staff: Stockland head warns bosses resisting flexible work

Outgoing Stockland boss Mark Steinert has warned his fellow office landlords they will lose talented staff as a result of hardline demands to return to offices, saying âstructured flexibilityâ was now an accepted and expected part of workplaces.
Mr Steinert did not identify anyone by name but said some landlordsâ public frustration at the growth of flexible working ignored the reality of the flexibility already entrenched in companies, including their own.
âFive days a week, nine to five â it ainât happening,â Mr Steinert told
The Australian Financial Review on Wednesday.

Wrapping up after 8.5 years at the helm, Mr Steinert addressed a packed house at Maroochy RSL last week as part of a Sunshine Coast Business Council event. Mr Steinert told the crowd he expected the work from home trend to amplify pressure on housing affordability and availability in attractive regions like the Sunshine Coast. Currently building a new home in Noosa, Mr Steinert said the Sunshine Coast needed to ask itself whether it had the current balance of housing choices right.
