they re getting ready to lift pandemic era restrictions. meanwhile, new york city mayor eric adams is calling on fema to stop sending money to cities that are bussing migrants to new york. the overtaxed shelter system is struggling to keep up. we re following this from new york and so is the white house reporter priscilla alvarez. what are the latest numbers on migrants in u.s. custody. is the administration ready to handle the surge that is likely to take place? reporter: jim, i spoke to a homeland security official this morning who told me there are more than 20,500 migrants in custody along the u.s.-mexico border. this official stressed numbers fluctuate throughout the day. this is an indicator of what is to come. that is an increasing number of migrants are crossing the u.s.-mexico border in anticipation of the may 11th date. there are now 7,000 daily encounters on the u.s. southern border. that is among the numbers that
