Kochi (Kerala) [India], May 23 (ANI): Kerala airlifted three tankers to the Tata Steel Plant at Burnpur in West Bengal and brought them back by road to Kochi with oxygen.
Western Railway runs 25 Oxygen Express trains to serve the nation
Keeping in pace with Indian Railways efforts of running Oxygen Express trains to various states across the country, Western Railway has run 25 Oxygen Expresses carrying Liquid Medical Oxygen (LMO) thereby strengthening the united fight against COVID-19 and for bringing relief to the COVID patients and their families.
According to Sumit Thakur â Chief Public Relations Officer of Western Railway, till now Western Railway has run 25 Oxygen Express trains & transported approx. 2297 tonnes of Liquid Medical Oxygen (LMO). These trains are given top priority and are run with all safety measures, being a cryogenic cargo. As a result, these trains are being run at an average speed of about 55 kmph by providing a through corridor, so that they could reach the destination within the shortest possible time. A tanker carrying 22 tons of liquid medical oxygen from Jharkhand s Bokaro to Bhopal overturned near Garhakota town in Madhya Pradesh s Sagar
district in the early hours of Monday, police said.
The incident took place in Chanaua village on Sagar- Damoh road, some 220 kilometres from Bhopal, at around 4am, though no leakage was noticed nor were there any reports of injuries to anybody, said Sub Divisional Officer of Police (SDOP) Kamal Singh Thakur. A team of experts will be arriving from Bhopal after which the tanker s LMO will be shifted to another carrier. It seems the vehicle overturned while trying to avoid hitting an animal. The spot has been barricaded, and a fire brigade team has been deployed there, he added.

The outbreak of COVID-19 has created huge demand for LMO across the country. The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) on Saturday announced exempting tankers and containers carrying liquid medical oxygen (LMO) from user fee at toll plazas across national highways. Keeping in view the current unprecedented demand for the medical oxygen across the country due to COVID-19 pandemic, containers carrying LMO will be treated at par with other emergency vehicles such as ambulances for a period of two months or till further orders, NHAI said in a statement.
