Coimbatore Corpn to double number of people deployed for door-to-door survey

Updated: Share Article AAA Given the increase in number of cases in the city, the Coimbatore Corporation has planned to increase the number of people it has deployed for conducting door-to-door survey. On Tuesday, Corporation Commissioner P. Kumaravel Pandian had said that the Corporation had already increased the number from 800 to over 2,000. Now, the Corporation was looking at doubling the number to take the total number of persons engaged in the survey to around 5,000. Since the start of the survey a few days ago, the Corporation had checked on people in 55,181 households and had identified 1,530 persons with influenza-like infection symptoms.

And, as of Tuesday, 520 vehicles were on road supplying the essential commodities, Corporation Commissioner P. Kumaravel Pandian said here on Tuesday.

Coimbatore: The horticulture department, along with local bodies, will procure vegetables and deliver directly at customers’ doorstep during the total lockdown. To start with, vegetables and fruits will be sold through 500 vehicles in the corporation limit on Monday. “We have authorized farmer producer organisations and farmers interest groups to collect vegetables and fruits from farmers, and sell at doorsteps. We are issuing the required e-pass and are authorizing their vehicles,” deputy director of horticulture Bhuvaneshwari said. “We will fix prices and assign areas to each group. They will also sell combo packs. We have made arrangements to procure vegetables from other districts,” she said.
