We’ll never know exactly how many people were killed in the Tri-State’s deadliest steamboat disaster.

The big news in 1935 concerned the packet Cape Girardeau, purchased by the Greene Line Steamers from the Eagle Packet Company of St. Louis.

On November 1, 1882, the second Granite State would become involved in what would be known as “The Ashland Tragedy” at Ashland, Ky.

The diminutive sternwheel steam packet Queen of Dycusburg was later one of the early towboats in the James R. Hines Company fleet.

After the Civil War, a tax was levied against Paducah residents to satisfy a judgment obtained by owners of the packet Sam Orr.

The steamer City of Pittsburg was destroyed in a fire in April 1902 on the lower Ohio River; at least 60 people were killed.

The Washington was a product of the upper Ohio, with the hull built at Murraysville, W.Va., and the boat completed at Wheeling in 1880.

The snagboat Missouri was built at Pittsburgh in 1888 for the Missouri River Commission and was originally named C.R. Suter.

The Cincinnati, Big Sandy & Pomeroy Packet Company, also known as the White Collar Line, had three sidewheel packets named Telegraph.
