ISLAMABAD Women journalists on Saturday called for allocating 33 percent seats in Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists (PFUJ) and other decision-making and representative bodies, Pakistan Press Council, and committees under the upcoming Journalists’ Protection Law.

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: Women journalists from different parts of the Country on Saturday called for the allocation of 33 percent seats for women journalists in Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists (PFUJ) and other decision-making and representative bodies as well as Pakistan Press Council and committees made under the upcoming Journalist Protection Law.
These demands made part of the Islamabad Declaration issued after the National Training of Trainers (NToT) on women leadership organized by the Aurat Foundation (AF) under the Women Learning Partnership (WLP). Women journalists from different parts of the participated in the NToT.

LAHORE: The Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists (PFUJ) has announced a long march from Quetta to Islamabad in the first week of April to force the government and the media houses owners to fulfil their obligations towards the media workers.
A meeting of the Federal Executive Council (FEC) of the PFUJ was held over three days in Lahore from January 15 to 17 to discuss a detailed agenda of media and workers’ rights and major challenges facing them. The meeting was chaired by PFUJ President Shahzada Zulfiqar.
The journalist body noted that the media workers had been facing financial hardships for last two years, as evidently there had been an anti-worker alliance between the government and the media houses owners. It is evident that the government has a hidden agenda to crush freedom of the press in the country, Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists (PFUJ) said Tuesday.
According to a statement issued by PFUJ, the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting identified four factors that were causing problems for the country s media workers:
- Expanding retrenchments, non-payment, delayed payment or cut in salaries of workers
- Diminishing press freedoms
