Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, May 8) The country on Saturday received the third batch of coronavirus vaccine developed by British-Swedish company AstraZeneca from the global COVAX facility.
A total of 2,030,400 AstraZeneca doses landed in Manila Saturday afternoon. This is in addition to the 525,600 doses delivered in March by COVAX a global initiative led by the World Health Organization, vaccine alliance Gavi, and the Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness Innovations that seeks member countries equitable access to vaccines.
The shipment the largest tranche the Philippines received from COVAX thus far was welcomed by officials of the country s pandemic task force, the WHO, and UNICEF.

As Covid-19 vaccines are already being distributed in some countries, the Philippines is gearing up for its procurement and distribution.
Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque assures that we have already secured supplies from three manufacturers.
These are with Sinovac, Pfizer, and the Tripartite deal to secure 2.6 million shots of Astrazeneca s vaccine.
Roque, however, didn t reveal how many doses of vaccine from Sinovac and Pfizer have been pre-purchased or how much the country is spending for them due to non-disclosure agreements.
Meanwhile, Vaccine Czar Carlito Galvez laid out plans on which shots will be handed out to specific areas once these become available.
