Iconic Main Street business set to mark its 85th anniversary this week

They are downtown Gardner’s version of Mount Rushmore – the four businesses that have been continuously opened in the city’s business district since the 1930s.
Lakin’s, which first opened in June of 1935, and the Paramount Cafe, opened in October of 1935, are among the oldest continuously opened establishments in their 86th year.
The Bowlaway is the youngest holdover from that decade, first opening in 1939.
Third in longevity, Priscilla Candy Shop at 4 Main St. marks its 85th birthday this Monday, first opening on Feb. 8, 1936.
