Report: It was a rough night for the ruling Democratic Party(DP), which lost the mayorships of Seoul and Busan to its rival People Power Party(PPP) in by-elections that were considered a referendum on President Moon Jae-in.
According to the final tally by the National Election Commission(NEC) early Thursday, the PPP’s Oh Se-hoon garnered 57-point-five percent of the votes cast in the capital city over the DP s former startups minister Park Young-sun, who received 39-point-18 percent.

Oh Se-hoon of the main conservative opposition People Power Party won a landslide victory over Park Young-sun of the Democratic Party 57.50 percent to 39.18 percent in the mayoral by-election of the capital Seoul.
In the mayoral by-election of the country s southeastern port city of Busan, Park Heong-joon of the People Power Party defeated Kim Young-choon of the Democratic Party by a wider margin 62.67 percent to 34.42 percent.

SEOUL, April 8 (Xinhua) South Korea s ruling Democratic Party was routed by the conservative bloc in by-elections of the country s two biggest cities amid growing public anger over the government s lack of proper response to an economic slump caused by the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic.

SEOUL, Korea, Republic Of - South Koreaâs conservative opposition party has won sweeping victories in mayoral byelections in the countryâs two biggest cities, a blow to President Moon Jae-in ahead of next yearâs presidential vote.
Oh Se-hoon of the opposition People Power Party won 57.5% of the votes cast in Wednesdayâs election in Seoul, the capital city, according to the final vote tally released by the National Election Commission. Park Young-sun of the ruling Democratic Party won 39.2% of the votes.
