While MBTA Scales Back Cuts, North Shore Still Takes Hit

Yet, while the extent and lengths of the cuts were ultimately reduced in some cases in the Fiscal Management Control Board s final recommendation, they will still be significant for North Shore residents who rely on traveling the commuter rail at off-peak hours and who utilize certain bus lines through Salem.

Snow Day No Longer Means Day Off For Danvers Schools

(Rachel Nunes/Patch) DANVERS, MA A pile of snow predicted for Thursday won t necessarily mean a day off for Danvers Public Schools students. With Danvers Schools switching to remote learning as of Thursday due to rising coronavirus and staffing concerns, the district will keep all students in a remote learning day in place of a traditional snow day should this week s storm warrant school closures across the state. We provided an update at the school committee (Monday) night and will provide remote instruction on snow days, Danvers Superintendent of Schools Lisa Dana told Patch. We also updated our school calendar back in September to reflect this change.

Some Beverly Hospital Staff May Get Vaccine As Soon As Wednesday

(Shutterstock) BEVERLY, MA The first coronavirus vaccine could be available to front line staff at Beverly Hospital as early as Wednesday, according to Beth Israel Lahey Health. The health care system that runs Beverly Hospital said in a statement to Patch it expects to receive the Pfizer/BioNTech vaccine in the next day or two and is planning to begin staff vaccinations the next day. A multi-disciplinary BILH Vaccine Command Team has developed a highly coordinated, systematic plan and a consistent set of criteria for administrating the vaccine to our staff and ultimately, our patients over the next several months, said Richard Nesto, Chief Medical Officer and Incident Commander, Beth Israel Lahey Health. This team has been working with our local teams at Beverly and Addison Gilbert Hospitals.

(Shutterstock) DANVERS, MA The coronavirus case level in Danvers surged sharply once again in the past week, according to state data, as the town entered the state s high risk category for community spread. Danvers recorded 315 positive cases over the past 14 days, compared to 177 cases in the same span leading up to Dec. 3. The town s cases per 100,000 residents the sole metric the state used until last month to determine whether cities and towns could move forward in reopening jumped from 44.3 cases per 100,000 to 68.27 cases per 100,000.
