CT Gov Ned Lamont Has Hip Surgery, Recovering At Home

Lamont is recovering from a previously scheduled surgical procedure to replace his hip, according to his communications director, Max Reiss. The procedure was conducted at the Hospital for Special Surgery in Stamford. Subscribe Governor Lamont s medical team says he is on track for a speedy recovery, Reiss said in a news release late Wednesday afternoon. Nassau Police Increasing Patrols Ahead Of Jan 20 Inauguration

(Patch Graphic) NASSAU COUNTY, NY Ahead of the inauguration of Joe Biden on Jan. 20 and the threats of violence around the country that have come with it, Nassau County will be increasing police patrols of sites around the area, although there are no specific threats to the county. Nassau County Executive Laura Curran and Police Commissioner Patrick Ryder announced the stepped-up patrols on Tuesday. Police will be increasing their presence at government buildings, houses of worship, hospitals, schools, transportation centers and fire departments, and is also working with in-house security at those sites to make sure they are prepared for possible violence.

(Patch Graphic) HALESITE, NY An archeological dig is underway at the Peter Crippen House, a site significant to the Town of Huntington s African American history, according to a town news release. Supervisor Chad A. Lupinacci s Office has been working with the town s historian, engineering department, and African American Historic Designation Council to ensure that the Peter Crippen House, which is in severe disrepair and is set to be demolished, can be properly preserved. In September 2020, the Huntington Town Board accepted an $8,500 donation from the Manes Peace Prize Foundation to conduct an archaeological study at the site, and they applied for $4,000 in Preservation League of New York State grant funding for a structural assessment of the house to determine to what extent the building, or its timbers, can be preserved for reconstruction at another site. (Patch Graphic) OCEANSIDE, NY Oceanside s representatives in state government are putting forward a bill that would allow citizens to recall people elected to serve on in special districts. It is being put forward because of the recent scandal involving an Oceanside sanitation commissioner. Sen. Todd Kaminsky and Assemblywoman Judy Griffin are sponsoring the bill, which would update the public officers law to allow recalls of people elected to serve in special districts. Under current state law, there is no method to remove people from from office in special districts unless the state supreme court rules they showed malfeasance in office, according to Newsday.
