VALLEY STREAM, NY There is a challenger for Nassau County Legislator Carrie Solages.
Dr. Bernadin Fleurima announced his candidacy for the third legislative district as a Republican. He is running for the seat on a platform of tax reform and fighting for fairness in reassessment, his campaign said in a statement.
The district includes parts of Lawrence and North Woodmere.

Using his background as a pastor, Fleurima wants to ensure communities get COVID-19 relief funding.
He emigrated from Haiti in 1990 and began his career for a non-profit providing help to people seeking victim services. Fleurima serves as Pastor of Shalom Ministries Foundation Seventh Day Adventist in Valley Stream.

CULVER CITY, CA An updated vote count will be released Friday in the 54th Assembly District special election, with educator and community organizer Isaac Bryan just short of the majority needed to win without a runoff.
Bryan had 49.62% of the vote according to semi-official results released Tuesday night by the Los Angeles County Registrar-Recorder/County Clerk s office. Fellow Democrat Heather Hutt, a former state director for then- Sen. Kamala Harris, was second with 24.61%.
If Bryan has less than 50% plus 1 when the results are certified, he will face Hutt in a runoff on July 20.

PITTSBURGH, PA With the polls now closed, votes are being counted in Pittsburgh s mayoral race. Will state Rep. Ed Gainey thwart Mayor Bill Peduto s attempt at a third term in the Democratic primary?
As results come in from the Allegheny County Elections Division, Patch will update as to whether Peduto, Gainey, retired city police officer Tom Moreno or college math tutor Michael Thompson will win the primary.

FALMOUTH, MA Falmouth voters will head to the polls Tuesday, May 18, for the 2021 town election.
One contested race will headline the election, and that s for a seat on the Falmouth Select Board. Incumbent Select Board member Douglas Jones chose not to seek reelection, so two candidates: Michael Heylin and Onjale Scott Price, will compete for the open seat.
Heylin is a town meeting member for Precinct 5 and has run for several town positions over the years, including for the Select Board, Planning Board and Falmouth Library Board of Trustees.
