Shahid Latif and 24 other terrorists were released by India in 2010 as part of the UPA governments efforts to mend relations with Pakistan. Latifs release had previously been sought by the same Jaish terrorists who had hijacked Indian Airlines flight IC-814.

New Delhi, Oct 11 (IANS) Shahid Latif, one of India's most wanted terrorists and a key conspirator in the 2016 Pathankot attack, was shot dead by unidentified gunmen in Pakistan's Sialkot, sources said.

Latif, aka Chota Sajid Bhai, was arrested in India in 1994 and was deported in 2010 after serving a 16-year jail term. He had been designated a terrorist under Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967 for being a member of the proscribed Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) by the Union home ministry in 2022.
