One expert warned that there is a “potential for cliff failures, for sure, as those waves are just beating against the base of the cliff more frequently during events like this."

Big waves pose a threat to coastlines as climate change affects wave size

Construction crews will initially focus their work on the 1016 West Cliff Drive site, which is the area most likely to be affected by strong waves or future storms. Residents and passersby can expect to see crews from site contractor Granite Construction clearing vegetation and debris from the site, accompanied by heavy machinery work.
