The Avondale Estates City Commission, at its Jan. 12 meeting, rejected a bid to construct the North Woods rain garden and other stormwater improvements at Lake Avondale. The city received one bid and the cost far exceeds the budget for the project.

The city of Avondale Estates plans to purchase a small piece of property that is located north of the town green from Fenner Dunlop for $23,000. The City Commission approved the purchase on Jan. 12.

About 400 workers could face suspension if they don't comply or seek an exemption by Jan. 15.

They claim that Mayor Michelle Wu's directive violates their collective bargaining rights.

The Avondale Estates City Commission is set to vote on the 2021 amended budget and 2022 proposed budget on Monday. The city saw a slight increase in revenues and expenditures in the 2021 amended budget, although the budget remained balanced.

The Avondale Estates City Commission is in the process of amending the city's tree ordinance and is considering adding a requirement that property owners must apply for a tree removal permit before performing any substantial land disturbance in residential areas, according to the draft ordinance. 

The Avondale Estates City Commission, at its Dec. 8 meeting, adopted the city's updated comprehensive development plan that sets the goals and vision for the city through 2025. 

The city of Avondale Estates is working to improve its police department following a failed accreditation attempt.

The Avondale Estates City Commission will meet on Wednesday, Dec. 8, at 5:30 p.m. for a regular meeting immediately followed by a work session. The City Commission meetings are held in person at City Hall, 21 N. Avondale Plaza, and will be available via Zoom.

Avondale Estates held its Annual Tree Lighting on Monday, Nov. 29. There was a new tree this year, cookies and hot chocolate from the Boy Scouts, Christmas carols were sung by the Decatur Avondale Children’s Choir and Santa Claus arrived on a DeKalb County fire truck.
