Virginia Gov. Glenn Youngkin declared a state of emergency Tuesday as firefighters responded to two wildfires that amid dry conditions and high winds. The declaration allows Virginia to mobilize additional resources, staff and equipment to help with the response, the governor's office said in a news release. The operation involves the Virginia National Guard, the Department of Forestry, the Department of Emergency Management and other agencies.

Delegate Wren Williams (R-9), Patricia Lynne Quesenberry and Jacob Frogel are all on the ballot for the Virginia House of Delegates District 47 seat.

Firefighters from multiple fire departments are battling a wildfire in the Woolwine community of Patrick County.

Five wildfires are burning across Southwest Virginia, which has been experiencing abnormally dry conditions, according to the U.S. Drought Monitor. A fire along the Pulaski County-Giles County line near Parrott River Road and the New River is the largest, at an estimated 350 acres.

One of the big questions in the Roanoke and New River valleys is whether Democrats can win in two newly drawn districts — one in the House and one in Senate.
