Australia’s first trial to test foreign interference laws has resulted in a guilty verdict for Victorian businessman Di Sanh Duong over a $37,000 hospital donation.

Prosecutor Patrick Doyle told the jury the Chinese Communist Party would have seen Duong as an “ideal target” to work as its agent.

Di Sanh Duong, 68, of Melbourne, Australia, has been convicted on covert foreign interference charges — a first under a relatively new law established in 2018.
