New York City Mayor Eric Adams on Wednesday announced that he is reversing budget cuts planned for the NYPD due to the ongoing migrant crisis, citing better than expected tax revenue.

The mayor said that not only would there be no police hiring freeze, but that 600 recruits were on the way. Libraries still face budget reductions.

The police department will now be able to send another 600 recruits through the academy in April and the fire department will restore staffing to the busiest engine companies, Hizzoner unveiled Wednesday afternoon in City Hall.
