Peter Maru’s debut performance in a Razorback uniform produced an Arkansas school record in the 5,000m and earned the Ugandan distance runner the SEC Freshman of the Week honor.

Ugandan distance runner Peter Maru made his Razorback debut special with an Arkansas school record in the 5,000m as he placed third in 13 minutes, 17.86 seconds at the David Hemery Valentine Invitational hosted by Boston University on Saturday.

Arkansas landed 61 student-athletes on the 2023 Fall SEC Academic Honor Roll as part of a total of 1,264 SEC student-athletes across the league.

FAYETTEVILLE -- If the Razorback Invitational is an indication, the University of Arkansas mens team is going to score big points in the heptathlon at the SEC Championships.

Arkansas transfer Jack Turner led a 1-2-3-4 Hog finish in the heptathlon on the second day of the Razorback Invitational as he improved his career best to a score of 6,000 points at Randal Tyson Track Center.

The SEC Indoor Track and Field Championships are still a month away when the event will be held at the University of Arkansas Randal Tyson Center on Feb. 23-24, but the Razorbacks mens and womens teams will get an early look at their conference competition this weekend.

This weekend’s Razorback Invitational features an impressive field of 16 teams competing inside the Randal Tyson Track Center on Friday and Saturday. Five of the schools entered currently rank among the top 10 national ratings in the early indoor season.

The defending national champion Razorbacks host their first meet of 2024 with the Arkansas Invitational on Friday, January 12, at the Randal Tyson Track Center. A dozen newcomers are scheduled to make their Razorback debut in the meet, which includes four freshmen and eight transfers.

Arkansas is ranked No. 8 in the 2023-24 Learfield Directors’ Cup Final Fall Standings released on Thursday by the National Association of Collegiate Directors of America (NACDA).

The indoor track and field season begins Saturday for the Arkansas distance squad as they compete in 3,000m and 5,000m races at the Sharon Colyear-Danville Season Opener hosted by Boston University.
