A gene-targeted personalized vaccine may delay the return of pancreatic cancer according to a small, but promising, trial.

Using mRNA tailored to each patient’s tumor, the vaccine may have staved off the return of one of the deadliest forms of cancer in half of those who received it.

Scientists are utilizing messenger RNA technology, which was utilized by the most commonly used COVID-19 vaccines in the U.S., to develop new cancer therapies. Moderna revealed promising data showing its melanoma vaccine reduced the likelihood of a recurrence in a small clinical study. And many other pharmaceutical companies and research institutions are working on similar cancer vaccines.
