Pelican Rapids artist Paul Johnson is in the process of creating a large mural that will grace the front side of the thrift store, facing Highway 10 on the west edge of Detroit Lakes.

Hundreds jumped into icy Detroit Lake during the Polar Fest Polar Plunge on Saturday, Feb. 25. The plunge raised about $55,000 raised for the Detroit Lakes Boys and Girls Club.
The 26th Annual Polar Fest Plunge to benefit the Boys & Girls Club of Detroit Lakes is set for 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 26 on the ice of Little Detroit Lake. The club is seeking 150 'plungers' a nod to the city's year-long Sesquicentennial festivities, which will come to a close with February's Polar Fest to sign up for the Plunge, with each required to raise a minimum of $50 in pledges to participate.

Sen. Tina Smith, D-Minn., toured the Boys and Girls Club of Detroit Lakes and downtown businesses on Washington Avenue on Saturday, May 8. The visit was part of her two-day listening tour through northwest Minnesota, which began Friday, May 7 with a stop in Moorhead and finished on Saturday after a visit to Bongards Creamery s store in Perham.
