Eleanor “Sandy” Torrey West, once owner and always champion of Ossabaw Island, died Sunday in the early hours of her 108th birthday. Her grandson and a member of the Ossabaw Island Foundation board, Beryl Gilothwest, confirmed her death Sunday as did Elizabeth DuBose, executive director of the Ossabaw Island Foundation.
