Crescent City homicide suspect arrested - KOBI-TV NBC5 / KOTI-TV NBC2

DEL NORTE COUNTY, Calif. – An arrest has been made in connection with a Northern California homicide investigation. The Del Norte County Sheriff’s Office said in the early morning hours of April 22, 22-year-old Joseph Deford was seen leaving the Patriot Gas Station on Northcrest Drive in Crescent City. About 25 minutes later, Deford was found unresponsive near the 200 block of Harding Avenue. When deputies arrived at the scene, they attempted life-saving efforts but they were ultimately unsuccessful and Deford was later pronounced dead. While at the hospital, what appeared to be a small-caliber gunshot wound was found in Deford’s back.

DNSO Seeks Information on Suspected Homicide On Harding Avenue Sheriff s deputes are seeking information about a 22-year-old man was found unresponsive and with what appeared to be a small-caliber gunshot wound to his back early this morning. Joseph Deford was found unresponsive near the 200 block of Harding Avenue in the Crescent City area when Del Norte County Sheriff s Deputies arrived at about 1:20 a.m. Thursday. Despite CPR and the administration of Naloxone, Deford was unable to be revived and was transported to Sutter Coast Hospital, whose staff found the gunshot wound, according to a Facebook post. From the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office: On April 21, 2021, at about 8:50 a.m., Humboldt County Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to a residence on the 1800 block of Buhne Drive in King Salmon for the report of a possible stabbing with two injured juvenile victims. While responding to the incident, deputies received information that a 29-year-old female was currently at a gas station on the 4100 block of Broadway Street in Eureka brandishing a knife. Officers with the Eureka Police Department responded to the gas station and detained the female. Upon further investigation, law enforcement learned that the female had been provided transportation by a motorist to the location from King Salmon. Based upon information obtained, the female was determined to be the suspect of the incident in King Salmon.
