Patriotic Energies and Technologies Ltd director Ozzy Warwick says the company expects a decision on the sale of the Petrotrin refinery will be made in the next two days. On the TV6 Morning Edition Warrick says once the sale is finalised they plan to have the refinery up and running in the shortest possible time.
With Christmas just a few days away, executives of Patriotic Energies and Technologies Limited are waiting with bated breaths to see whether they will finally get acquisition of the Pointe-a-Pierre refinery and port.
In an exclusive interview with Guardian Media, one of the company’s directors, Ozzi Warwick, said they had yet to hear from the government as to whether their acquisition bid was successful.
Asked whether he believed the acquisition process could be closed before Christmas Day, Warwick said they remained hopeful.
“We believe that just as Christmas is supposed to represent hope with the hope of Jesus Christ, the closing of the acquisition process for Patriotic to acquire the refinery, will provide hope for the people of T&T,” he said.
That assessment from the political leader of the Movement for Social Justice (MSJ), David Abdulah.
Speaking to the media during a press conference on Sunday 20 December 2020, Abdulah said both the energy sector and the non-energy sector took a hit this year.
Quoting from a report from the Central Bank, Abdulah said there was a 49.6 per cent decline of methanol production in 2020 compared to 2019.
“Ammonia output declined by 16.8 per cent compared to last year. In terms of the total economy, there was a 7.5 per cent decline in 2020, compared to 2019. The non-energy sector fell by 7.7 per cent because of COVID-19,” Abdulah said.
UNTIL the controversial Public Procurement and Disposal of Property (Amendment) Bill, 2020 is withdrawn by the Government, the United National Congress (UNC) will not be supporting any legislation brought to the Parliament, said UNC Senator Wade Mark.
âWe will not co-operate with them until they bring back the original Public Procurement Act. We will isolate them. We will expose them at every turn. We will not co-operate with the PNM (Peopleâs National Movement) and the four horsemen of the apocalypse,â Mark stated yesterday at a news conference at the Office of the Opposition Leader in Port of Spain.
The senator said the amendment to the parent legislation by the Dr Keith Rowley-led administration had effectively legalised âthievery, banditry and naked and wholesome corruptionâ.
