it will work. 30,000 doesn t sound like a big number, but in this war, 30,000 trustworthy loyal, tribesmen who were focussed on defending their villages is a good thing in the long run. the real question, jamie, as you suggest is will they they may be loyal to the local chiefs but will they be loyal to the central government? right now, nobody knows. jamie: what about literacy? or lack thereof? my goodness. everywhere you go, in afghanistan, jamie, you see chron chronic illiteracy. like 90% of the regular army is illiterate. couple of points. just because a soldier is illiterate doesn t mean he s ignorant. many soldiers are good with weapons, stocking skills, local intelligence and so while they can t read or write, many of them are very, very good at let s say small unit tactics. after all, they ve been at it for 2200 years.
