ANINI, Kauai (KITV4) --The search for a missing swimmer was suspended Wednesday afternoon after a four-day, multi-agency effort.

Honolulu Police Department Maj. Benjamin Moszkowicz has been selected as chief of Hawaiʻi County's police department. The Hawaiʻi County Police Commission affirmed his selection in a 5-3 vote, with Chair John Bertsch recused. HPR's Sabrina Bodon reports.

In a 5-3 vote on Friday, the Hawaii island police commission chose Honolulu Police Maj. Benjamin Moskowicz to head the county's police department.

Earlier this week, Hawaiʻi Island residents got a first glimpse of who could be their island's next police chief, and many are familiar faces.The process started earlier this year, when former Hawaiʻi Police Chief Paul Ferreira retired earlier this fall.

The candidates will go before the public and the Hawaii County Police Commission next week in their quest to become the island’s next police chief.
