This evening’s Ipswich Town Annual General Meeting took place in the Centre Spot restaurant. David Sheepshanks took centre stage in front of a star-field style backdrop, and addressed a crowd numbering some 200 shareholders. These shareholders eventually found their seats after traversing long lines of chairs. I hope the architects of the new South Stand are aware of the necessity of aisles.
There is increasing speculation that Town may have to change the sponsor s name on their shirts before the end of the current deal with TXU Energi. The UK retail arm of the electricity company was recently sold to Powergen who plan to ditch the TXU name by April next year.
Town have announced that they have been seeking to find a sponsor for the North Stand. The club also said that they are also considering sponsorship for the ground itself.
Town find themselves £250,000 to the good today after agreeing a stand sponsorship deal with the Britannia Building Society. The West Stand (formerly the Pioneer Stand and before that the West Stand) will from now on be known as the Britannia Stand. Commercial Director, Paul Clouting said: I am delighted to announce the long term sponsorship (minimum five years). We chose Britannia because of their regional strength, strong brand name, good reputation, their willingness to create a strong working partnership with the Football Club and because no one else was prepared to stump up the cash. That last bit isn t entirely true.
Former Town boss George Burley is widely expected to leave his position as Derby County manager today. Relations between the Scot and the Rams board have deteriorated and Burley is understood to have tendered his resignation.
