Stand-in fullback Stephen Crichton reckons he hasnt played a full game in the No.1 jersey since high school but will draw plenty out of a winning start to his stint covering for an injured Dylan Edwards. Crichton did little wrong in the custodian role and the dominance of his sides 46-6 win over Manly at Lottoland on Thursday helped mask a few stuttering defensive moments, but the 20-year-old is simply looking to improve after getting the first one out of the way. It might've come with a wry smile but Paul Momirovski's cheeky comment after his first outing for the Panthers gave a strong indication of what teams can expect under the ruck and scrum rule changes in 2021.

Even without Cameron Smith, Melbourne look set for another strong campaign as they chase back-to-back titles in what could be coach Craig Bellamys final season. While theres been no official word on whether Smith has retired, it appears certain that his 430-game Storm career finished in fairytale fashion with last years grand final victory against the Panthers. Melbourne have long planned for life after their most-decorated captain, with Harry Grant - returning from a loan stint at the Wests Ti...
