(WBRC) - Forbes recognized UAB in the top five best employers for diversity in the entire country. UAB ranked number 4 on the list. We’re told it’s an achievement that didn’t happen overnight, but because of efforts from multiple dedicated employees over the years. Dr. Paulette Patterson Dilworth, vice president of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion at UAB, said UAB’s diversity efforts prepare students to live in a global marketplace and perform well, and instill values of integrity and respect.

Its history is also painful. âDuring the civil rights disturbances and civil rights marches here, the idea was to take the grievances from the African American community to city hall â and itâs only three blocks away,â Washington said. The church was used as the meeting place for protesters, making it a target for hatred.
