​Ignoring unionists will never lead to a balanced political outcome, a former DUP MEP has told European politicians.

Unionist politicians have been quick to point out that the vast majority of the £857m Peace Plus funding for Northern Ireland and the border counties announced yesterday comes from the UK Government.

Ulster Unionist MLA Steve Aiken says he believes Secretary of State Chris Heaton-Harris was “stitched up” by Dublin’s handling of this week’s EU Peace Plus funding announcement.

The money is for a scheme known as Peace Plus, which is funded by the UK, Ireland and the EU.
