A section of serving and retired pilots have strongly criticised the de-rostering of the captain and the crew of a New York-Delhi flight in which a male flier urinated on a female co-passenger in a drunken state.

Shankar Mishra, the accused, was arrested by the Delhi Police from Bengaluru on January 6 and brought to Delhi. A local court sent Mishra to 14-day judicial custody. -- aaa

A co-passenger on the Air India New York-Delhi flight where an inebriated passenger urinated on a woman, told NDTV today there was "fault at multiple levels" in the handling of the incident.

On Friday, Mishra's lawyers said that their client had compensated the woman with Rs 15,000 and cleaned her belongings.

Shankar Mishra's lawyers claimed he had exchanged messages with the woman who filed the complaint, and even paid her Rs 15,000 as compensation, and got her belongings cleaned.

Though Shankar Mishra switched off his phone, he was using his social media accounts to communicate with his friends, police said. This gave the police an opportunity to locate him.

Union Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia on Saturday said that speedy action will be taken in the case where a man allegedly urinated on a woman co-passenger on a New York-Mumbai flight.

A Delhi court Saturday refused to grant Delhi police custody of Shankar Mishra, arrested for allegedly urinating on a fellow woman passenger on board an Air India flight from New York to Delhi in November last year.

Air India CEO Campbell Wilson has told the airline staff to report any improper behaviour on aircraft to authorities at the earliest even if the matter appears to have been settled.

An inebriated male passenger identified as Shankar Mishra had urinated on a female co-passenger in Air India's business class.
