Taipei, June 15 (CNA) Taiwan's Council of Agriculture (COA) on Wednesday called on Chinese authorities to present scientific evidence of their recent claim that the COVID-19 virus had been found on the packaging of frozen fish imported from Taiwan.
The Council of Agriculture yesterday said that food packaging does not pose a significant COVID-19 risk after Bejing imposed a temporary ban on a Taiwanese frozen seafood company, claiming it found SARS-CoV-2 on packages of frozen fish.
The comment came hours after China’s Taiwan Affairs Office spokesman Ma Xiaoguang (馬曉光) told a news briefing that a week-long import ban had been imposed on chilled and frozen fish from Keelung-based Peitu Frozen Foods Corp (北都冷凍食品工業).
The ban was promulgated on Friday last week after SARS-CoV-2 was detected on the packaging of several items, Ma said.
More stringent genetic testing protocols are to be implemented
