At Mobile World Congress 2024, Philippine telco NOW Telecom signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Rakuten Symphony to establish a collaborative framework for deploying a 5G Open RAN pilot in the Philippines.

Veon’s Ukrainian subsidiary Kyivstar said at Mobile World Congress 2024 on Monday it intends to purchase and deploy Open RAN and 5G technologies from Japan’s Rakuten Symphony into its network.

In June 2021, Samsung became a strategic partner for Vodafone to deploy Open RAN network. Since then, the two companies have been expanding their collaboration, recently marking a milestone of kicking off the largest Open RAN rollout in the UK in August 2023.

Ericsson’s Mobile Networks segment sales in the market area of South East Asia, Oceania and India grew by 7% year-over-year, while sales in India grew by 14% year-over-year in Q4 2023, as per its report.

Ericsson 5G: In November, Ericsson forecasted that the global 5G subscriptions are expected to grow 330% between 2023 and 2029, from 1.6 billion to 5.3 billion. It projected 5G coverage to be available to more than 45% of the global population by the end of 2023 and 85% by the end of 2029.

Vodafone Idea: Earlier, Vi had told ET in November 2023 that Open-RAN (O-RAN) trials with US companies were being explored with an eye on deployment in the future. The telco has reportedly been holding trials with Mavenir for a 5G network based on O-RAN for a few circles and is in talks for equipment supply.

Parallel Wireless has partnered with Nigerian network-as-a-service (NaaS) provider Hotspot Network Ltd to extend 2G and 4G coverage to previously unconnected rural sites throughout Nigeria using Open RAN solutions.

CHEYENNE — DISH Wireless will invest a $50 million federal grant into its Cheyenne campus to establish the Open RAN Center for Integration and Deployment (ORCID) in Wyoming.
