Seattle-born Adam Muto, a showrunner for "Adventure Time," returns to the Land of Ooo as the showrunner for the spinoff "Fionna and Cake," streaming on Max.

With Fionna and Cake, Adventure Time shows it can learn from Steven Universe, Gravity Falls, Owl House, and everything that came after it.

Max’s newest show provides a fun yet melancholic adult cartoon that even those unfamiliar with the series can fall in love with.

When Adventure Time ended its original series run in 2018, fans were heartbroken. It was a beautifully surreal show with genuinely likable characters and enough lore behind the scenes to satisfy both adults and children alike. Though the series eventually got a proper sendoff in the form of the limited series Adventure Time: Distant Lands, four hour-long specials that debuted on Max in 2020 and 2021.
