Cendana's Food Aid set to reach more arts and cultural workers

The Food Aid Programme, driven by the Cultural Economy Development Agency (Cendana), aims to help 1, 500 artists and cultural workers across the nation. Photo: Cendana With the extension of Phase One of movement control under the National Recovery Plan to curb the spread of Covid-19, the cultural and creative sectors will continue to remain shut. The ongoing closure of performing arts spaces and the suspension of cultural events - which began in the Klang Valley on May 7 before the implementation of total nationwide lockdown on June 1 - has left the arts scene nationwide verging on Covid-induced collapse. The immediate measures now are to get food aid to arts communities and individuals who are negatively impacted by the pandemic and the various lockdowns.

PUTRAJAYA (Bernama): The gazetting of the Road Transport (Amendment) Bill 2020 which came into effect on Oct 23 is one of the biggest achievements of the Transport Ministry (MOT) during the Perikatan Nasional government’s year-long administration. Transport Minister Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong said several fatal accidents due to drink drivers triggered the push for the amendment of the bill, especially Sections 41 to 45 to impose stricter punishment for dangerous driving, or driving under the influence of alcohol and drugs. "We had consultations with a total of 345,021 people participating online, and 94% agreed to amend Act 333. "I then continued to ask my officers, within the first 100 days (of the Perikatan administration) to present a memorandum to the Cabinet to be brought to Parliament," he said in an interview on MOT’s one-year Malaysia Prihatin achievements recently.

PETALING JAYA: Malaysians have lauded stimulus efforts carried out by Perikatan Nasional over the last one year, since taking over the Federal Government. The measures have proven to be lifelines which has helped Malaysians cope with the loss of jobs and incomes. Lee Hai Lam, who was retrenched, said the Permai package had eased the requirements under the Employee Insurance Scheme (EIS), making him eligible to claim 30% of his previous drawn salary for three months. “Though it’s not much, at least it helps me weather through such tough times.
