今年的总统选举是秘鲁左翼和右翼党派之间的一次较量，关系到未来国家政治、经济和社会发展方向，因此竞争极为激烈。6月15日，秘鲁全国选举程序办公室公布了统计结果，卡斯蒂略得票率为50.125%，藤森庆子得票率为49.875%，二者票数仅相差44058票。
人民力量党就一些投票站存在欺诈违规行为提起上诉，要求废除部分违规选票。经过严格审核后，秘鲁全国选举委员会于7月19日宣布了本次大选的最终结果。
