Is it Fair for Established Performers to Audition for Talent Shows?

One familiar name on the
America’s Got TalentSeason 16 audition list has raised questions about fairness when it comes to trying out for the show. Actor and voiceover artist Michael Winslow has appeared in numerous films like
Gremlins,
Space Balls, and the
Police Academy franchise. Based on an ambiguous Instagram post, it appears that Winslow recently auditioned for Season 16 despite his established success.

SPENCER — Ryleigh Modig's spirited and eventful run on the NBC show "The Voice" came to an end Tuesday night, but not before giving emotive voice to one more song that, once again, drew praise from coach/judge John Legend.
The live performance rounds of the competition began Monday night with 17 performers who had made it through blind auditions, battle and knockout rounds each singing a song.
Modig, 18, of Spencer, sang "Driver's License" by Olivia Rodrigo. Legend said Modig's rendition had "so much heart and soul and sadness and beauty."

The Voice season 20 -- and after Tuesday, only the Top 9 will remain!
On Monday, each of the Top 17 artists took the stage for a brand new performance, in the hopes of continuing on to next week's show. Coaches Blake Shelton, Kelly Clarkson, John Legend and Nick Jonas are able to offer critiques during the live shows, but the first round of voting is up to the fans.
On Tuesday, viewer votes determined the top performer from each team, and the coaches each had a save to use on one of their remaining artists.

straaange song selections, it looked like the eight singers who’d be headed home would be: Team Nick’s Four-Way Knockout winner Devan Blake Jones, Team Nick’s Andrew Marshall, Team Nick’s Jose Figeuroa Jr.…
Uh… yeah, it was not a great night for Team Nick.
Or Team Legend, for that matter. As I was typing, the likeliest eliminees included Team Legend’s Zania Alaké, Ryleigh Modig and Victor Solomon (even though he gave arguably his most spirited performance to date), Team Blake’s Pete Mroz and onetime frontrunner Zae Romeo from Team Kelly.
The top 9 contestants on "The Voice" have been revealed.
Tuesday's results show marked the biggest elimination so far, with the field of 17 cut nearly in half after the contestants gave it their all Monday night with their first live performances of the season.
"It’s tough for me too because I’ve been them literally," said Kelly Clarkson, who won the inaugural season of "American Idol" in 2002.
"The Voice" is only two week away from crowning the Season 20 winner, and coach Clarkson has a slight advantage with three singers in the Top 9. The other coaches – Blake Shelton, John Legend and Nick Jonas – each have two singers on their teams.
