Jackson, Mississippi health systems compete for state burn center title. UMMC approved but its physicians may not be suitably qualified, report claims.

JACKSON, Miss. (AP) — After the October closure of Mississippis only accredited burn center threatened to upend access to care, the states next designated burn center will be housed at

University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson will be the state's next designated burn center. This unit was built in response to closure of Merit Health Central's burn center.

Both UMMC and Baptist have submitted applications to be designated as a burn center. The State Health Department must deem them qualified.
